Marco J.L. Van Strijen

Dr. Marco J.L. van Strijen is a Consultant interventional Radiologist at St. Antonius Hospital Utrecht/Nieuwegein, The Netherlands since mid 2004 and was chairman of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, and a boardmember for the Medical Staff Cooperation at St. Antonius Hospital in the last 10 years.

Biography

In his department dr. van Strijen is program director for Nonvascular Interventional Radiology, and is a pioneer for percutaneous cryotherapy in renal cell carcinoma using innovative 3D conebeam CT based planning and intervention systems. Dr van Strijen is one of the main clinical partners of Philips Medical Systems in Best, and played an important role in the development of the oncologic interventional capabilities of the Allura FD20 system.

In developing the technique of CBCT needle guidance he has also partnered with several different manufactors of guidance systems and accessories, notably the introduction and use of robotic guidance (Isys and Perfint systems). As a result he has published several articles on the accuracy and clinical use of these systems.

Dr. van Strijen is on the review board for European Radiology, and the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. He is part of the steering group of the EURECA-committee (European Registry for Cryo Ablation).

Dr. van Strijen is a proctor for Galil Medical/Boston Scientific since 2008 and has trained numerous interventional radiologists in and outside of Europe (mainly Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Russia). Dr van Strijen is an instructor for CIRSE workshops and has presented in international congresses over the past 15 years (CIRSE, ECIO, RSNA). Apart from that he has hosted over 20 workshops on percutaneous needle interventions in his own hospital, and approximately an equal number of workshops around the world (China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Middle East, Africa, Europe, Brasil, Canada and the US).

He is married and has four children. Privately he was involved as a BLS trainer and a professional certified lifeguard for many years, and has a special interest in restoration of prewar classic cars. He likes photography, skiing and travelling.
