Biography

Dr. Edward Yoon is an interventional musculoskeletal radiologist who specializes in novel minimally invasive treatments of the joints and spine. Dr. Yoon is dual fellowship trained and dual board certified/board in Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Pain Management. Dr. Yoon is an active member of North American Spine Society, Spine Intervention Society, American Society of Spine Radiology, Society of Skeletal Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and Society of Interventional Radiology where he has presented at national meetings. He was a course instructor for the lumbar injection course for the North American Spine Society and is currently serving on the Radiology Section Committee.

Dr. Yoon completed his fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at HSS after which he trained in interventional musculoskeletal/spine and pain management under Dr. Douglas P. Beall at the Oklahoma Spine Hospital and Summit Medical Center. During his fellowship, Dr. Yoon completed over 700 vertebral augmentation procedures and had extensive training involving intrathecal targeted drug delivery, neuromodulation, interspinous process devices, basivertebral nerve ablation, stem cell allograft augmentation, sacroplasty, axial skeletal osteoplasty, discography, and radiofrequency rhizotomy.

Trained in all areas of musculoskeletal intervention and imaging including MRI, CT, and ultrasound, Dr. Yoon is also extremely well versed in the more common procedures such as facet, sacroiliac, epidural, intradiscal, and joint injections. Given the recent opioid crisis, the procedures he performs provide a non-opioid alternative that is highly effective, research supported, and very sustainable for patients wanting pain relief without the risks of opioid medications. Treatments performed by Dr. Yoon for very common conditions such as discogenic back pain and osteoarthritis of the knee not only provide profound pain relief but are backed by the highest level of research and were not even available five years ago. The research that went into developing these new techniques was facilitated by Dr. Yoon’s efforts in studying and propagating these procedures.

Dr. Yoon has strong interest in regenerative medicine and interventional procedures. He has been involved in numerous research projects throughout his training and has presented on the largest intradiscal stem cell therapy for degenerative disc disease. He has published multiple articles and book chapters on vertebral augmentation for the treatment of painful vertebral compression fractures as well as intrathecal opioid and intrathecal baclofen therapies.
